Window survey checklist before ordering replacement frames

A measured survey checks more than width and height. Use this checklist to understand what should be confirmed before fabrication.

Measure the whole opening, not only the frame

Survey work should check brickwork, existing frame position, plaster lines, tile returns, cills, bay supports, frame extensions, drainage, and whether the new product needs to cover old decoration lines.

Room use affects the specification

Bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchens, landings, and living rooms can need different openers, privacy glass, restrictors, trickle vents, escape routes, and handle positions. A room-by-room schedule keeps the quote accurate.

Access and finishing should be clear

Parking, ladders, scaffolding, heavy glass, internal protection, blinds, shutters, alarm contacts, and making good should be discussed before fitting day so the installation is planned properly.

Quick checklist

What to confirm before you order.

Every property and opening is different, so use this as a starting point before a measured survey and final specification.

  • Confirm sizes, cills, add-ons, and frame positions
  • Check opener directions, escape routes, vents, and privacy glass
  • Flag tiles, shutters, alarms, render, and awkward access
  • Agree colours, handles, hinges, and finishing expectations before manufacture
