Advice guide
Bifold or sliding doors for an extension?
Both can transform a rear elevation. The right choice depends on opening width, daily access, views, threshold detail, and panel layout.
Bifolds create a wide open aperture
Bifold doors fold back in panels, so they work well when the goal is a large opening to a garden or patio. A traffic door can make daily access easier without opening the full set.
Sliding doors prioritise glass and views
Sliding doors keep the movement within the frame line and often allow larger glass panels. They are a strong option when uninterrupted views and simple operation matter more than a fully open aperture.
Thresholds and tracks need early planning
Floor levels, drainage, access, panel weights, and structural openings should be discussed before final sizes and manufacture.
Quick checklist
What to confirm before you order.
Every property and opening is different, so use this as a starting point before a measured survey and final specification.
- Choose bifolds for a wide opening when fully open
- Choose sliders for larger glass panels and simpler sightlines
- Plan traffic doors, tracks, thresholds, and trickle vents early
- Ask about Sheerline, Cortizo, and Rehau Slinova options
